Community Calendar:

The purpose of the community calendar is to have a centralised placed to see shared events that are in the area which are held for or by Black and Global Majority people - creatives, businesses, families, facilitators and organisations. This is also a space to share events which are in solidarity to local and Global issues, like fundraisers, marches etc.

Please email us at storyofthechanging@gmail.com if you would like your event to be added to the calendar.

Criteria

(These are guidings there isn’t binary definitives, email us if you’re not sure).

We will try to share all events which:

  • Are community organising events centring marginalised people, in particular Global Majority folks.

  • Are hosted, held or facilitated by Black and Global Majority folks.

  • Are held in York and the surrounding areas. (Leeds, Bradford, Haxby, Barnsley, wider Yorkshire)

  • Promote healing, learning and practicing towards liberation.

  • Are fundraisers, marches or solidarity events for causes relating to liberation and the Global South.

We will likely not promote events which:

  • We feel are not aligned with our values.

  • Are held by charities, business or organisations which have problematic projects, staff, or narratives.

  • We don’t feel comfortable sharing - if we don’t know enough, or get the feeling there is a misalignment, we will respectfully decline your ask for listing your event.

  • Events which are unethical or extractive in nature (e.g institutions asking for unpaid research groups asking for lived experience without reciprocity).

We are open to this criteria being challenged.

We may not have the administrative time to upload all events, so we may miss your event or not get back to you in time because of a lack of capacity and no other reason.

Legal Liability & Safety

We are not legally bound to any of these events, you and anyone you bring to the events listed should attend at your own risk, Story Of the Changing is not legally liable for any misconduct or harm that arises at events which are not ours.

If you’re worried about the safety of your attendees, where too much of an online presence is a risk, then consider sharing an email (that doesn’t name anyone specially) instead of all the event details so people can get in touch. Please mention this in your email for listing for advice, and whether an online listing is the right choice for your event.
